Making a difference is one of our most sought after desires.
In Maslow’s hierarchy of needs Self-actualization which is defined as reaching our full potential and Self-transcendence (giving yourself to a higher goal) even tops off our largest, most fundamental needs.
Since making a difference is so important I’d like to share the 3 steps we are using to really make a difference this year.
Making a difference is our mission and we hope you will make it yours too.
In fact, this one mission should apply to Christians everywhere who want to obey Christ.
Look at Jesus last words in Matthew 28: 19,
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
So here’s how to get purpose and make a difference this year:
“Be a disciple who makes disciples”.
Making a difference = making disciples.
If you want to be a difference-maker, you need to be a disciplemaker. Difference-makers are disciplemakers, and disciplemakers are difference-makers.
We need to understand this is our mission as well as our purpose.
Yes, It’s the command Jesus gave us. But we need to understand God’s purpose. God’s intent is that the whole earth would be filled with His glory as the water covers the sea. The only way we are going to see God’s glory cover all the earth is when there are people living for the glory of God in all of their life. That’s really what a disciple is. God is glorified in all things.
Disciple making is the fundamental job of Christ’s church and discipleship is the key to God’s transformation in the lives of Christians everywhere.
If you want to make a difference this year your priorities must be in order. Disciple making must be the principal task in our lives.
Here’s the 3 ways we’re making a difference by making disciples.
1. Making Disciples
Jesus commanded us to go and “make disciples” of all nations.
The first step in our disciple-making process is drawing unreached people to Jesus Christ. We often call this step evangelism. I define evangelism as helping people becoming more and more like Jesus every year and letting Jesus guide their lives. Evangelism takes place in the context of disciple making. Jesus drew large crowds and then challenged them to commit. If we want to make a difference the way Jesus made a difference we have to imitate him. Not just what he did, but how he did it.
We want as many unreached people as possible to be reached with the gospel, so that they will hear about Jesus. That’s the starting point, for most people, on the journey to spiritual maturity.
This year we will continue to train up new missionary disciples to multiply disciples through Globe International and Misión Global.
2. Planting Churches
Jesus commanded us to Go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you
Disciples should teach disciples to make more disciples.
Christians need to understand that true disciples reproduce disciples. When disciples begin to teach others to become disciples they begin to discover their purpose.
We love to help new believers become disciples and get better connected through planting Biblical churches.
You can only make disciples when people who make decisions to serve Christ stick around. It’s actually easy to get a bunch of people to come. What’s difficult is getting people to stick, to keep coming back, and to feel that they are truly part of a family of believers.
The real issue is, how do we help people see that they really part of Christ’s Church. The best way to grow spiritually is to be a committed part of the body. We do that by concentrating on raising up biblical churches.
Disciple making and Church planting go hand in hand since new churches help new disciples grow in spiritual maturity.
Disciples follow Jesus. They imitate his character and learn to be more like him, which only happens as they grow deeper in his truth and grace. And growing disciples don’t depend solely on a weekend message as their source of spiritual nourishment. They become self-feeders who study the Bible, pray, give, and serve.
We can all plant churches since Jesus said make disciples, not get big buildings or ministries.
I define a church a simple church as a gathering of disciples who are loving God, loving others and making disciples.
Our role as church planters isn’t to produce spiritual maturity. Only the Holy Spirit can do that. But it is certainly our job to create the environment and supply the tools for God to work with.
New churches begin to multiply as people leave their seats to serve others.
This year we will plant new churches and train up leaders to plant new churches.
3. Reaching Nations
Jesus told us to go and make disciples of all nations.
When you make disciples you make missional movements. When you make disciples the way Jesus made disciples the world is changed.
As foreign missionaries we partner with you to fulfill the Great Commission locally, globally, and cross-culturally.
The end game of making more disciples, is making more disciples. We reach one more for Jesus so that the family of God grows and becomes more influential in reaching a lost generation with the good news. There are still thousands of unreached people groups in the world, and when the body of Christ works together, we can get busy reaching them.
Every obedient Christian is responsible for reaching the world. We can’t leave it to denominations and parachurch organizations. You are part of the solution.
This year we have plans to reach the least reached in Latin America, Asia and Europe.
