“But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.”
2 Corinthians 9: 6-8“
We applied this Scripture when we applied for an adoption credit and the IRS turned around and charged us for back taxes.
On September 4-6 we celebrated Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.
As we see farmers harvesting crops we’re reminded of this time last year when we submitted a petition for adoption credit to the IRS. We anxiously awaited a check in the mail.
A letter finally arrived and we were surprised to find out that instead of a credit we were being charged for 3 years back
taxes. The amount we owed was $7,488.18. It seemed like a giant!
“What would you do if you just found out you were faced with an enormous unexpected bill?”
We’ve given a first fruits offering in January of every year for the past few years. In fact, we paid off our credit card and bank debts when we started living to give, and giving to live a few years ago.
When faced with debts we decided not to give up and to give more.
“Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.”
– Thomas A. Edison
This bill caught us by surprise, but we realized it was a form to discourage us from giving. We decided to give our 2 first fruit offering for the year. We also made large faith promise offerings to several of our churches in Mexico.
Good news arrived.
Just a few weeks after our sacrificial giving we received a letter from the IRS informing us we didn’t owe anything. Although we had
already went through a lot of paperwork and red tape we didn’t accept defeat.
We resubmitted the petition for adoption credit and our persistence paid off…
After months of not giving up we received an adoption credit from the IRS.
This year we find ourselves going through more trials, so what are we to do?
We won’t give up and we’ll keep on giving.
We just applied 2 Cor 9: 6-15 and celebrated Rosh Hashanah by giving another first fruits offering.
God will bless us and I know He’ll do the same for you if you never give up and never stop giving.
