How To Experience Thanksgiving All Year Long

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving weekend. Don’t you wish this wonderful time would never end?

I do too, that’s why I want to share how you can experience Thanksgiving all year round.

Thanksgiving is all about giving thanks to God together as a family. Here’s 5 things I’m thankful for.

The good news is… it’s possible for people who may not have many family members or have suffered the loss or death of a loved one recently to experience this type of togetherness all year-long.

In addition to blood relatives, Christ shed his blood to make it possible for you to join his spiritual family of believers.

Christ designed His local church to be a community. Being a part of a spiritual community makes it possible for you to experience Thanksgiving all year Long.

This past week, the church we attend in the United States closed down. Yes, it’s true.

It was very sad and was hurtful to a lot of us; Mostly because we all know one another and our church family members will most likely scatter to other places of worship.

We are still members of the Ark Church in Mexico and meet together with friends quite often. We’ve been at this Church for over 14 years and this fellowship is really important to us because it allows us to live out community daily.

As I was reading Acts 2:42-47 the importance of community was really impressed upon me,

They (the local church) devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,  praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

Since most of us just celebrated Thanksgiving with our families we can really relate to these verses:

• Fellowship
• Being together with everything in common
• Breaking bread together in homes
• Every day they continued to meet together
• They ate (Turkey) together with a glad and sincere  (Thankful) heart.

What a great description of a year-round Thanksgiving celebration!

Do I have to attend a church to be a Christian?

In this article I address a better question than “What is church?” It’s “Who is the church?”

The church is worshiping communities everywhere, under the authority of Christ, becoming kingdom communities, so the glory of God will be revealed to the peoples of this earth.

Churches are not physical places, They are spiritual communities.
Here’s some more key thoughts:

• “Every obedient Christ follower should be part of a spiritual community”.
• Church is not an organization, denominational or building. It’s a called out community that affirms that Jesus is the Christ.
• The church is being built by Christ. Not by men. Matthew 16:18
• The church is not a brick-and-mortar structure. The church is made of flesh & blood.

Followers of Christ are the church and they meet together quite often to experience Thanksgiving together as a community.
