Your story matters. God has given you a unique testimony that He can use to impact others.
Many believers want to share their faith but feel unsure where to begin.
The good news is this:
You may not know every Bible verse yet—but you do know what Jesus has done in your life.
Sharing your faith may involve a dramatic before-and-after testimony, or it may simply be the story of how Christ continues to change and guide your life today.
For many years—both here in Mexico and in other places where we minister—I have found that one of the most natural and effective ways to begin guiding people toward Christ is through personal testimony.
God has chosen you to help guide people to Christ.
In part 3 of our disciple-making series, How To Make Disciples, I shared 3 reasons why you are God’s most qualified disciple maker.
Now I want to show you how God can use your story as part of that process.
The proper use of your personal testimony is one of the most powerful disciple-making tools I know.
Watch My Personal Testimony + Learn the 3-Step Framework
I recently created a short video and companion resource through our God on Mission training ministry to help believers learn how to share their testimony clearly and confidently.
In the video, I share my own testimony and explain a simple framework for sharing your story in just a few minutes.

How To Share Your Story

Even though your testimony is unique, you should be able to share your personal story in about three minutes.
When sharing your story:
* Speak the other person’s language
* Avoid church clichés or religious jargon
* Keep it natural and conversational
* Focus on what Jesus has done
One simple way to share your testimony is by dividing it into three parts.
1. What Was My Life Like Before I Met Christ?
What were your priorities?
How did you seek identity, peace, or security?
Did something leave you searching for more?
Do not glorify sin or spend too much time describing the past. Share only enough to show your need for Christ.
2. What Were the Circumstances That Led Me to Meet Christ?
How did God begin drawing you to Himself?
What changed in your thinking or perspective?
How did you repent, trust Christ, and surrender your life to Him?
Focus on your relationship with Jesus—not merely church attendance or religion.
3. What Is My Life Like Now That I Know Christ?
Give specific ways your life is different now.
What motivates you today?
How does Christ help you in daily life?
Life is not perfect—but Jesus changes us and walks with us.
Examples of Personal Testimonies
Paul’s Testimony
Paul shared his testimony using this same simple framework:
- Before – Acts 22:1-5
- How – Acts 22:6-11
- After – Acts 22:12-21
My Story
You can see how I use this framework to share my testimony.

Now Write Out Your Story
Take a sheet of paper—or download the workbook—and write three simple sections:
1. Before Christ
2. How you came to know Christ
3. What life is like now
Write the way you speak.
Make the testimony yours.
Share Your Story
God has chosen you to help guide people to Christ.
Practice sharing your testimony with someone you trust.
Who should you share it with?
Remember in my article Who to Reach, you created a list of people God has placed around you.
Now ask the Holy Spirit to open doors with the people He brings to mind.
Your story matters.
And God wants to use it.
Now that your testimony is ready, let’s look at how you can begin fulfilling God’s main purpose.
