What is keeping you from making disciples?
I have put together a A Guide to Making Disciples & Personally Sharing Your Faith which we use to train our missionaries about the importance of making disciples.
In our first lesson we asked the question, Who should I disciple?
If we know who we are trying to reach the next questions is
What is standing in the way of reaching these people?
You may need to consider these questions to discover your personal obstacles.
What is the biggest reason why you do not share their faith on a personal level?
What is the biggest problem you encounter in fulfilling God’s Great Commission?
The number one reason why we do not make disciples
I’m going to cut right to the chase. I’ve identified the main reason why we do not make disciples.
It’s a lack of obedience.
I go into detail about this problem in my article entitled The Problem with Going And Making Disciples of All Nations.
You may be able to think of a lot of other reasons why Christians don’t make disciples.
Here’s 7 more reasons Christians don’t share their faith:
- Don’t have time
- complacency and spiritual laziness
- Don’t believe the Word of God is true “the wages of sin is death” (Rom 6:23
- Lack of concern or compassion for the lost
- Not politically correct
- Fear of rejection
- Don’t know how or where to start.
Now look at some of the problems I’ve identified. They are all a direct result of disobedience to Christ’s commands, even the last one which is not knowing how to begin.
What kind of Obedience is God Asking of Me?
Jesus is not just asking us to be obedient, He actually commands us to go and make disciples in Matthew 28:19.
Here’s 3 types of obedience God is asking of you.
1. IMMEDIATE Obedience
People argue they don’t have time to share their faith. Although God prefers immediate obedience He always leaves the choice up to us and timing is also our our decision.
In Isaiah 6:8-, Isaiah’s commission, God asks for obedience and Isaiah responds immediately.
Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying:
“Whom shall I send,
And who will go for Us?”Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”
And He said, “Go, and tell this people…
God is calling us to react in obedience like Isaiah. Because time matters we can’t afford to be complacent or lazy. We need more disciples who will immediately obey Christ’s command to make more disciples for Christ.
2. RADICAL Obedience

“Am I a disciple worth reproducing?”
You’ve heard these expressions
- “actions speak louder than words”
- “practice what you preach”
- even,”you are what you eat”
Are you a disciple worth reproducing?
If you could make a clone of yourself, is that the type of disciple Christ would want.
Don’t be afraid to be a radical like Jesus was. A radical Christian believes the Word of God is true,. Radical disciples are concerned and have compassion for the many lost people who may be dying and going to hell.
3. COSTLY Obedience
God is asking you to be obedient no matter the cost. Even if you have to suffer ridicule for being politically incorrect. Why should we fear rejection when Christ was rejected, ridiculed and mocked? Christ actually warns us we will suffer rejection (Matt 10:22-24)and persecution (Matt 24:9)
Ask yourself this question:
“Do I really love God and other people so much so that I am willing to obey Christ’s great commission to share my faith not matter what the cost?”
Start sharing Christ today
God is asking for Immediate Radical Costly Obedience.
Don’t let disobedience stand in the way of reaching others for Christ.
Start today.
How do you get started? That’s what I want to teach you.
In my previous lesson on who to disciple I asked you to ask the Holy Spirit to help you, to make a list of people to reach out to and to begin prayer walking.
Today I asked you to overcome all obstacles of disobedience.
In m our next lesson you?l discover why you are God’s chosen vessel to guide the lost to Christ.
Also be sure to read our lesson about a very practical way to guide lost people to Christ.- Share your testimony
